Miscanthus sinensis ‘Silberfeder’ (also called Miscanthus 'Silver Feather' and Chinese Silver Grass)
Clump forming perennial grass with arching green leaves. 'Silberfeder' flowers well in cooler climates. up to 2m high with a spread of 1.2m.
Open, upright habit.
Upright, silvery/pinkish plumes, held straight, becoming white and fluffy with age.
Strap like leaves with pale centre, green or reddish-orange edges.
Well drained, light, moist. Will also grow in soil that doesn't dry right out in summer, which may be preferable as the plant can get a bit rampant when planted in ideal conditions.
Cut back to top of new growth in April and take out any old growth using comb action with a hand fork. The leaf edges are sharp so wear thick gloves.
Divide in spring or early summer.
