Half hardy tuberous perennial grown for showy flowers from summer until first frosts. Good for cutting, borders and containers.
Flowers in summer and autumn.
Habit – upright with blooms held at the top of stems.
Stems – straight, firm, dark green with shades of red-brown.
Leaves – compound, dark green, smooth.
Flowers – dark red flowers with many velvety, close-packed, curved petals.
Full sun.
Fertile, humus-rich soil.
Tender to half hardy.
Give a high-nitrogen liquid feed each week in June, then a high-potash fertiliser each week from July to September.
Lift and clean tubers after the first frost has blackened the foliage and store in a frost free place. Replant dormant tubers in spring and plant out after the frosts have finished.
Divide tubers in spring.
